Meaningful and inclusive youth participation is a key component of our programmes. We strive for the participation of all young people in all aspects of programming and research.

The effective model of Young Focal Persons - Youth Participation in Senegal

The support of ASBEF for young people assuming leadership roles within their SRHR programme in Senegal has led to better results. However, several recommendations- from recruitment to a supportive environment- can further strengthen meaningful youth participation.

Youth enriches SRHR interventions-Youth Participation in Ethiopia

Young co-researchers in Ethiopia interviewed young and adult staff of SRHR organisations about youth participation. They found out that young people who participate in SRHR initiatives in Ethiopia build leadership skills and contribute to the successful implementation of SRHR interventions. The researchers also provide recommendations on how best to support young people’s involvement. Organisations and programmes could benefit from involving young people in decision-making too, for instance on research, design, planning and evaluation.

Piloting youth participation - Youth Participation in Kenya

In Western Kenya community health committees started working with young people to improve access to quality SRHR information and services for youth. After the pilot, bottlenecks to effective meaningful youth participation were researched. This research identifies barriers and enablers of youth involvement in detail.

What motivates young people - Youth Participation in Pakistan

Young co-researchers in Pakistan interviewed youth and adult staff at SRHR organisations about what youth participation means to them. They found out the positive effects of youth participation in the development and implementation of SRHR interventions. With this information they provide recommendations on how to best support young people’s involvement.

Young staff needs supportive adults - Youth Participation in Indonesia

Young co-researchers observed diverse ways of youth participation at SRHR organisations in Indonesia and considered working in partnership with adults as the most meaningful strategy. From interviews with young and adult staff they reveal advantages of youth participation as well as recommendations on how to best support the involvement of young people.

Young people working together – Youth-Led Collaborations in Malawi and Uganda

Young people from different organisations work together in youth advisory committees and youth clubs in Malawi and Uganda. Young co-researchers from these countries reveal how these and other youth-led collaborations are implemented, what the positive effects are of working together and what their recommendations are on how to best strengthen collaborations between young people.
