Results of a Regional Linking and Learning Expert meeting

In October an expert meeting took place in Pretoria (South Africa) on SRHR education and HIV prevention programmes for adolescents and young people. For three days 100 people, from 18 different countries, working with and for young people and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and HIV prevention had the opportunity to link policy and practice. Read a reflection of the results in the online magazine called ‘More Access and Better Quality’.

What are the most urgent issues? What do we need to be doing? And what should we no longer do to ensure young people can make their own choices regarding sexuality and HIV prevention?

The programme was a mix of practical workshops and plenary presentations on policies and trends on regional and international level.

Training of Trainers Project

From 2012-2015, Stop Aids Now! and Rutgers worked together on this Training of Trainers project: Quality of SRHR education and HIV prevention programmes for youth. This expert meeting represented the end of this project. Educaids was an important partner during this project.

What next?

At the expert meeting the organising and participating partners expressed their wish to setting up an international SRHR an HIV platform for blended learning. This should include how to train, support and maintain a pool of master trainers, capable of addressing a range of SRHR and HIV topics, who support implementing CSO’s working with youth on SRHR and HIV prevention. In the next months the possibilities will be explored.
