New research, commissioned by the Dutch Global Health Alliance and the SRGR platform, highlights the significant and global impact of Dutch investments. The research was conducted by Charlie Nederpelt, an independent consultant at Amphi – Public Health Informatics.
There is currently no clear-cut system for impact evaluation and reporting within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ portfolio on global health and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). This new study aims to change that by systematically mapping the results and outcomes within this portfolio. The goal is to contribute to the public and political debate and to provide a stronger foundation for future evaluations.
The conclusions are clear: Dutch investments in global health and SRHR have had a demonstrable impact. They have contributed to improved health and well-being, the strengthening of sexual and reproductive rights, more robust health systems, a stronger civil society, higher labour productivity, and greater health security worldwide.
These findings are particularly relevant at a time when international aid funding is under pressure and discussions are taking place about future commitments to global health and SRHR. The study shows that Dutch contributions make a measurable difference and provides a solid basis for continuing targeted investments.
Between 2020 and 2024, Dutch investments helped to:
- prevent 1.3 million unsafe abortions;
- prevent 3.8 million unintended pregnancies;
- vaccinate 7.1 million children;
- prevent 9.9 million infections (HIV, malaria, TB);
