Rutgers will launch three new research studies putting women and girls’ lived experiences at the centre, showing how social stigma, financial barriers and systemic delays create a maze that keeps safe abortion out of reach for most of them- even where the law allows it. Young researchers are helping uncover these hidden barriers and translating their insights into evidence-based recommendations. The findings aim to guide policymakers, healthcare providers and advocates, turning evidence into action so that every young woman can reach a safe choice.
This work is based on studies conducted in:
- A regional report on on access to safe and legal abortion covering Benin, Togo, Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire
- A study on the implementation of the amended legal framework on abortion from Benin
- A study on the unsafe abortion practices from Togo
