Inside the maze women face: the reality of unsafe abortion in Togo

This qualitative study explores the lived experiences of adolescent girls and women facing unintended pregnancies that they are unable to carry to term.

Through personal testimonies, the report highlights the many barriers they face, including stigma, shame, silence, health risks and legal restrictions. It shows how these factors influence their decisions and the paths they take.

The study also highlights the impact of laws, social pressures and health inequalities on access to safe abortion services and post-abortion care. These constraints have direct consequences for the well-being, health and lives of the adolescent girls and women.
