Gender-transformative approach toolkit – module 1: six interrelated components
Rutgers’ innovative and comprehensive toolkit for implementing a gender-transformative approach has been designed as a resource and a guide to support the integration of a gender-transformative approach (GTA) into sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) programmes and organisations.
Module 1 forms the core of Rutgers’ approach. It explains what we understand by GTA, why it is important to apply it to SRHR interventions and starts to explore how to do this. This module contains six chapters on the following interrelated components:
- The human rights-based approach
- Power
- Norms and values
- Gender and diversity
- Empowerment of women and girls
- Engaging men and boys
The Rutgers gender-transformative approach toolkit consists of five modules:
- Module 1: Six interrelated components and the socio-ecological model
- Module 2 : Comprehensive sexuality education
- Module 3: Youth-friendly services
- Module 4: Advocacy
- Module 5: Gender-transformative approach at organisations and institutions
